Stephanie B. Laborde specializes in litigation, particularly in the areas of insurance defense, complex business defense, and medical malpractice defense. She serves as the General Counsel and Board Attorney for the Louisiana Insurance Guaranty Association, General Counsel for the Louisiana Behavior Analyst Board, and as Conflicts General Counsel for the Louisiana Patient’s Compensation Fund Oversight Board. She previously served as the General Counsel and Board Attorney for the Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors, and as Secretary for the Community Hospital Coalition and Family Security Holdings, LLC.
She is a registered lobbyist, assisting clients with a broad spectrum of legislative activities and practice before many agencies of state government. Her extensive litigation practice includes defense of complex multi-party litigation before virtually every state and federal court in Louisiana, at the district and appellate court levels. She previously served as Commissioner of Administration for the State of Louisiana, the highest appointive position in state government, responsible for the operations and finances of state government, and as Chief of Staff of the Governor’s Office. She possesses a comprehensive understanding of the business concerns of the private sector, the regulatory obligations of the government agencies responsible for overseeing same, and the risks and benefits of litigation versus amicable resolution of disputes. She is able to utilize this breadth of knowledge and experience in her extensive defense litigation practice to find the best and most efficient resolution of most problems. She received her law degree in 1991, honored as a member of the Order of the Coif and the Louisiana Law Review.
Ms. Laborde is a member of the Baton Rouge and Louisiana State Bar Associations. She is admitted to practice before all State District Courts, Courts of Appeal, and the Louisiana Supreme Court, as well as the United States District Courts for the Eastern, Middle and Western Districts of Louisiana and the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Ms. Laborde is a past Government Chairman of the United Way Campaign and past Honorary Chairman of the Statewide Rape Task Force. She served on the Coordinating Council of Services for Children, and as a member of the American Management Association. Ms. Laborde is a recipient of the YWCA Woman of Achievement Award.
